TOP 5 TIPS FOR YOGA CLOTHING

POINT 1 – loose versus fitted

It’s a matter of preference as to whether you wear loose or fitted clothing. Yoga is practical as it entails doing various types of body positions, which strengthens different parts of the body thus increasing flexibility and balance, and your yoga clothing / yoga wear needs to reflect this.

For a more dynamic practice, a more fitted trouser is generally preferred (Capri, Legging or Bootleg), which is what I prefer, so that the fabric doesn’t get in the way. For a more gentle practice, a looser trouser and top is preferred (Foldover Pants, Drawstring Pants)

The most important thing is to be comfortable in your style choice – so that your focus is in your practice and you’re not pulling up trousers or pulling down tops!

POINT 2 – Organic and Bamboo fabrics
How you look and feel in your yoga clothes is also important. Knowing that you look good in your yoga clothes will make you feel more positive about yourself, and a positive outlook can help you succeed in Yoga.

I design Asquith clothing so that the wearer has space to focus on herself and her practice. I believe that the fabric is very important and only use Certified Organic and bamboo fabrics – firstly because they are kinder to the environment, and secondly, how they feel against the skin is of the greatest importance. To have natural, breathable fabrics that feel soft are a wonderful addition to your practice. To me, synthetic fabrics just don’t feel right for yoga or against the skin.

Fitted yoga pants and yoga t-shirts made of Bamboo jersey are great for your yoga classes since they absorb sweat easily and also allows for maximum comfort and breathability – perfect for a more dynamic practice as they naturally wick away sweat.

POINT 3 - tops

Yogawear for yoga yoga practice – yoga tops need to be long enough and not too low cut so that you are comfortable when doing stretches.

And try and avoid yogawear with underwires and belts. It is important for yoga clothing to feel that your movement is unrestricted.

POINT 4 – cover ups

For your yoga clothing it is also important to have ‘cover up’ yoga clothes, these are yoga clothes that you can put on over your yoga outfit, after your yoga practice – in the Sivanasa (‘cool down’) phase.

Asquith London offers the following yoga tops in the range: Wrap Cardigan & Funnel Neck Zip top You may also find that you start off a bit chilly then warm up during your practice, hence, layering garments work well.

POINT 5 - quality

The Quality of your yoga clothing is important. If you attend yoga classes regularly then you’ll need a few outfits and you’ll need to wash and wear clothes regularly – therefore clothing that doesn’t bobble, fade or shrink is key…as your clothing will need to work hard for you! I sell Asquith to many yoga teachers who value the quality of the range, because they have to find clothes that they love….and of quality…that they’ll wear, day in, day out.

Which Trousers should I buy?
We offer various styles of trouser to suit your needs. For a fitted look and for a more dynamic yoga or Pilates practice, the Bamboo Leggings, Capri Pants and Bootleg Pants are perfect as they fit next to your body and are fantastic for movement. The Bamboo Tie Pants are brilliant for those who often find trousers are too long for them because the tie makes them fully adjustable. For a slightly looser fit we recommend the Drawstring Pants, Foldover Pants or Bamboo Palazzo Pants- these aren't as fitted, but are still equally as easy to move about in and are also perfect for travelling in, relaxing at home or running around town.  All the styles and fabrics are carefully designed with comfort and freedom of movement in mind.

Which Tops?

The Asquith London range is based on layering. Tops with fitted bras such as the Racer back top and Singlet  offer great support and are surprisingly comfy. We also offer a selection of tops that cover up bra straps, Bamboo Sleeveless T-shirt and the Long Sleeve Bamboo Top, which is also perfect if you'd like to cover up your arms. And we offer various cover ups for before during or after your  practice, to keep you warm. Our signature Wraps cardigans, in Organic Cotton or Bamboo are perfect layering pieces.

All of our Tops are designed to be long length, so that you don't have to worry about showing your tummy or things moving where they shouldn't!

The Asquith London collection is a 'lifestyle' clothing range - ie it's also designed to be worn anywhere; perfect for relaxing at home, travelling, and the tops, especially the Wrap, is great with jeans.

Maternity Clothing
Asquith London yoga clothes are extremely popular for maternity wear because they are so comfortable, adjustable and can be worn over or under your bump.
The clothes are made in natural, breathable fabrics and therefore are comfortable, flexible and adapt extremely well for the early stages of pregnancy and after the birth.
